Yaktrax review and giveaway!

Disclaimer: I received this product free to review. I received no other compensation. All opinions in the post below are mine.

I don't know about all of you but, I've had enough of this winter and the Polar Vortex! The snow and ice have been terrible! During all of this, I've made pretty good friends with my treadmill and elliptical. Ugh!

I reached out to Yaktrax and they sent me a pair of Yaktrax Run to try! Wahoo!
The Yaktrax Run is an ice traction device anatomically designed for use with running shoes. Run naturally on packed snow and ice with the Yaktrax Run's combination of removable spikes and steel coils, providing 360° of unbeatable traction. Continue your training during the winter with the same stability you are accustomed to on dry surfaces. The Yaktrax Run can be worn in temperatures as low as ‑41° Fahrenheit.
Even if your not a runner but want to get outside, Yaktrax offers the XTR, Pro, Walk and Ski models as well as a variety of warmers!

They were super easy to attach to my running shoes.

I was ready to brave the 9 degree temps! Snow and ice, be scared! The Yaktrax were great! They offered me the peace of mind and stability to go full out on my run! I only slipped a bit once or twice when I hit an extremely icy spot. SOLD!!!

Now it's your turn!!! Which pair would you choose?
One luck winner will be given their own pair of Yaktrax! Make sure to enter below! Winner will be chosen Monday, March 3rd!

Columbus Marathon/ Run for Ashleigh

So, after completing my second full marathon in May, I though hmmm... Why not train for a fall race? After all, Columbus was my first ever marathon! (I ran it in 2010 with my sister-in-law.)

Training was going so well until a month before the race. Seems as if the multiple 40+ training weeks were catching up. Not good :( During this time I also learned of a friend's cancer diagnosis.
Ashleigh, was 19 at the time, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. It had progressed quickly and had spead to her lungs. It was stage IV. The prognosis was not good but, Ashleigh is a fighter! With her faith & determination she has inspired us all!

I wanted to do more!!! If it were my son going through all of this, I would hope to get half of the support my community & church have provided! We started selling shirts & getting the word out about Ashleigh's cancer.

I wanted to do more!!!
So, I set out to get every one of my 26.2 marathon miles donated to help Ashleigh and her family! After all, with the long road of chemo and surgeries me running the 4 1/2 hours it takes the least I could do! Man, the support I was able to get was AMAZING! I was able to get all of the donations!

I planned to get a "Fight Like A Girl" #PrayersforAshleigh shirt made for the race! I even put all of my sponsors names down for the mile/miles they donated! It turned out great!!
I was ready and inspired for race day! Ashleigh had a chemo treatment that week, more inspiration. The plan was to focus on her and all of my sponsors during the race, no PR or pressure!

Race day was here!
The months of preparation would finally pay off!!! Things were going great! I actually slept the night before and was ready for the chilly start!

I got stopped in traffic for 45 minutes :( Bummer! But, I made it to the start line! They stagger started us which would've been fine and dandy but, it was COLD! LOL! We were finally off after waiting 20 min from the first gun. Bexley is my favorite and I actually saw a client of mine cheering on the crowd! It was great to see a familiar face!

I kept praying and praising during the race! Was SO awesome to see the crowd cheering us on! I got a few "Fight Girl!' cheers and "Go Kimmie!" Super fun! I was really looking forward to running through the 'Shoe!! The Buckeyes had won the night before! WOOHOO!  It was a very quick in and out but really gave me something to look forward to around the 18 mile mark!

Mile 19 was not so easy :( My back and hips were starting to hurt. I stopped and stretched out both! AHHHH.... The last 6 were really tough. My stomach was upsetting me and I was starting to hurt. But, I kept thinking of Ashleigh and her fight. I could get through it! I kept praying and praying!

The finish was around the corner and I was SO glad to see the crowd and hear the cheers! My race was finished but Ashleigh is still fighting hers!

-Easy 365 returns – A customer has 365 days to return any product, so long as it is in its original packaging and in its original condition.  If you are injured and unable to use the shoe, if your doctor wants you in a different model because of orthotics, no worries… no questions asked!

Introducing Kindrunner.com

I am always looking for ways to give back while doing what I love! So excited to be chosen as an Ambassador for this great company!  What is Kindrunner  about you ask?

Kindrunner is the only place on the web where runners can trade in their old running shoes for new shoes.  Runners receive ‘Kindness Cash Rewards’ for every shoe you send to them. In turn, they give those old shoes to their shoe donation partners, including Soles 4 Souls and the More Foundation, to benefit people in need. What they are looking to do is to take shoes that would normally go into landfills or in someones closet and re-purpose them, give them to someone who would greatly value them.  A great line they use is "Your old shoes may not last another long run, but they would go the distance in changing someone else's life for the better!"

How can you learn more?

Injuries so close to race? Taper

Taper time is supposed to be great,  right?!?!

I was really looking forward to cutting down some miles before the marathon!

Then, Tuesday, I developed some pain on the bottom of my foot. Ugh! My mom was just telling me about her PF & of course, I said, "That's something that I've never had in 5 years of running!" Nothing like jinxing myself :(

Yeah.... 2 days of icing.
The pain is there but hoping I can nip it quickly!

Have you ever had an injury pop up so close to your BIG race?

It's been 6 months since I've blogged

Wow!
I knew I needed to take a break from the blogging & social media but, Goodness!

My life was focused on the wrong things at the time & I needed to get it all right with God :)

I had an amazing time getting close to Him & His word! I feel like I've grown so much, but know I still have a long way to go!

I'm so excited to be training for my 2nd marathon! It's the Cleveland Marathon on May 19th! It's on my 38th birthday & I'm so exciting to be running it with my sister-in-law :) We both ran our 1st marathon together in October 2010!

Training so far has had it's up's & downs, of course! I'm just trying to mentally prepare myself as much as possible. My body has been pretty good, just some minor issues here & there.

I'm glad to be back to it and hope to continue on this journey!

It's been awhile!

It's been quite a few months since I've blogged!

After my last half I've just been focusing on my family & my faith!
I've wanted to race but, it just hasn't happened! Life sometimes gets crazy!

I'm looking ahead to 2013!

I'd really like to run the Cleveland marathon in May. If my sis-in-law is able, she will be my deciding factor, as she completed my last with me in 2010. I need that extra push!
I'd love to do 2 other half's late summer & fall, as well as a duathlon in early summer!
Lofty goals! I got my new racing bike for Christmas and am really excited to ride it in the spring!
I'm hoping my body holds up for all of this! I think I have a friend convinced to do her first half in August! It'll be fun to run it with her & help her achieve her goal!!

What are your plans for 2013?
Did you achieve your goals in 2012?

Cheers & Happy Running!
